Tips to Keep Your Room Cool In Summer
Summer is already beginning to appear with increasingly high temperatures and we all start thinking about ways to keep a room or home in general cool to avoid suffering inside the house, the inclement heat that numbs and exhausts us.
We have all been there, pulling and turning in bed, fighting because our sweat has practically stuck to the sheets or, trying to do a daily activity like cooking, cleaning or whatever. That's horrible! There are few things worse than trying to take a nice nap (or even just relax!) In an incredibly hot room. But high summer temperatures are unavoidable for most of us at some time of the year.
Although it is tempting to put the air conditioning to its maximum or stand two centimeters away from the nearest fan, there are other tricks to keep cool.
1. Leave the blinds down.
As simple as it seems. The Family Handyman says that up to 30% of the heat comes from the windows, and using blinds, curtains or something like that can save you up to 7% on bills and lower the interior temperature by about 6º C. In other words, avoid basically that your house becomes a small greenhouse, which is what usually happens when the windows are oriented to the south and to the west.
2. Be smart with the doors.
Closing unused rooms will prevent fresh air from reaching those areas during the hottest part of the day. In contrast, during the cooler hours of the night (see tip number 7), it is better to let the air flow naturally through your home.
3. Change the sheets.
Changing bedding not only gives a new look to your room, but also refreshes it. While flannel sheets and wool quilts work very well as thermal insulation, now is the season of cotton, which perspires better and maintains freshness. In addition, we advise you to buy a buckwheat pillow, because the grains allow the air to pass and thus do not keep the heat of your body like traditional pillows do.
4. Make your ceiling fan go counterclockwise.
Even if you do not know, your ceiling fan needs to be adjusted depending on the season. By making it turn counterclockwise and at a higher speed in summer, it is achieved that the generated airflow creates a breeze effect that will give you a feeling of greater freshness. If you want immediate freshness during the summer then you can also buy a cooling fans.
5. Worry about the person, not the house.
If your ancestors survived without air conditioning, you can too. It consists of feeling fresh inside: for this, you can drink frozen drinks or put a piece of cold cloth in areas where the pulsations are stronger, such as the neck and wrists. There are other tricks, such as choosing clothes well or telling your partner not to curl up until the leaves of the trees begin to change color.
6. Turn on the bathroom extractor, or the kitchen extractor.
Both take out of your apartment the hot air that is produced when cooking or taking a hot shower. That being said, make sure you do not leave the cold air and close doors and windows well.
7. Let air in at night.
During the summer months, temperatures drop at night, so take advantage of the cooler hours by leaving the windows open before going to bed. You can even create a wind tunnel by strategically placing the fan so that a perfect stream of air is formed. Just make sure you close the windows (and the blinds) well before you start to warm the sun in the morning.
8. Get rid of the incandescent lights.
If you needed more reasons to switch to compact fluorescent lamps, here you have it. Incandescent bulbs spend about 90% of their energy on the heat they emit, so if you strip, you will notice the difference in both the temperature of your home and the electricity bill.
9. The barbecue season begins.
Although it is obvious, we have to say it: using the oven in summer will make your home hotter( You can read the reports from here ). If you already think there are 40º inside the house, the last thing you have to do is put the oven to a temperature of 200º C. Also, in summer you want to get all the juice out of the garden accessories.
